Nature and history in the citycenter

The area is located close to the Venetian walls (1488-1509) of which one of the best preserved sections can be seen. In particular, you can see the so-called ‘Tower of the Madonna’ on which the painting depicting the Madonna and Child was placed, which was then moved to the Sanctuary of St. Mary of Graces.

In 1847 it was acquired by the Municipal Administration for the exercises of the infantry and cavalry garrison. In 1863 the area was enlarged with the purchase of contiguous pieces of land. It remained in use until the end of the First World War (1915-18) and later became a public park.
